Our mission is to manufacture a solution that will stand the test of time for our customers.  We focus on quality. Spend a little extra and have peace of mind that your equipment won't disappoint you! Below you will find out about our work for Lancashire Renewables.

Trommel Wheels

Arolco Engineering was commissioned to carry out a full Trommel wheel refurbishment programme for Lancashire Renewables after persistent service and reliability issues with existing OEM and local suppliers in England. Previous providers had struggled to deliver consistent quality, long-term durability, and responsive support, leading to recurring operational downtime and mounting frustration for the client.

Arolco Engineering implemented a revised, end-to-end refurbishment strategy. Rather than conducting partial site repairs, complete Trommel wheel units were removed, transported to Arolco’s facility, fully refurbished under controlled workshop conditions, and returned as complete assemblies ready for installation. This streamlined approach reduced on-site downtime and eliminated inconsistencies in fitment and alignment.

Extensive quality troubleshooting formed a key part of the project. The team identified long-standing design and assembly faults dating back to the original OEM supply. One critical improvement involved correctly clocking the wheels on the shafts using Fenlocks, ensuring precise alignment and secure torque transmission. This resolved chronic movement and premature wear issues that had previously affected performance.

The result was a more robust, reliable Trommel system with improved lifespan, reduced maintenance requirements, and greater operational confidence. By combining technical problem-solving with a practical refurbishment model, Arolco Engineering delivered a sustainable, long-term solution where previous suppliers had fallen short.

Hardox Star Wheels

For Lancashire Renewables, Arolco conducted specialist repair work on Hardox star wheels — critical components used in star screens to break up incoming glass and other material in recycling operations. These components endure extreme wear and require both durability and precision. Arolco’s team reverse-engineered an OEM-compatible star shaft and manufactured it from wear-resistant Hardox material, ensuring the replacement not only matched the original specifications but delivered improved service life and performance.

This kind of OEM conversion work draws on Arolco’s comprehensive in-house CNC turning and milling, fabrication and metrology capabilities. By producing a custom shaft that fit the existing assembly, they enabled Lancashire Renewables to minimise downtime and maintain efficient glass processing operations without costly OEM lead times.

Auger

Arolco Engineering Solutions supplied a bespoke auger for Lancashire Renewables to support the processing of organic material from green waste streams. Lancashire Renewables operates large waste treatment facilities that process household and biodegradable waste as part of a system designed to divert material away from landfill and recover valuable resources.

The auger, sometimes referred to as a screw conveyor, was manufactured by Arolco to the customer’s exact specifications to ensure compatibility with the plant’s waste-handling equipment. Augers are widely used in material-handling systems to move or mix bulk materials by rotating a helical flight within a trough or casing, enabling continuous movement and processing of waste streams. In this application, the unit was designed to churn and agitate organic material derived from green waste, ensuring consistent breakdown and movement of the material through the processing line.

To maximise durability in a demanding environment, the auger flights were hard-faced during fabrication. Hard facing is a welding process used to apply wear-resistant material to surfaces that experience abrasion, corrosion, and heavy friction, significantly extending the service life of industrial components.

By designing and manufacturing the auger in-house using precision fabrication techniques, Arolco delivered a robust, application-specific solution that improved reliability and longevity. The project demonstrates the company’s capability to provide custom engineered equipment for the waste and recycling sector.
